My childhood was filled with stories. Many of my earliest memories involve sitting on my Daddy's lap, a big cuddle and story after story about the adventures of Princess Sara Jayne and her glorious white horse, Dobbin.
Sadly, my Dad’s health failed when I was a young adult. So when my own two little princes came along, Reuben and Harrison, I was determined to create stories for them. And very soon, bedtimes, walks with Fluffbert, anything really, turned into an opportunity to add another chapter to the Prince Reuben and Harrison stories.
My parenting journey coincided with the privilege of chairing a charity that helps young people and those needing mental health support in South London. During that period I met some incredible professionals, read everything I could and saw amazing work being delivered by many charities and organisations. But I was always very aware that there was a lot more to do to ensure all people have the support and tools they need to look after their mental health.
As a storyteller, I soon found I was weaving positive core beliefs and well-being strategies into my children's bedtime tales. When my truculent then two year-old Harrison told me he’d, “blown out [his] anger,” (rather than planting an exceptionally well-timed and accurate head butt), I felt compelled to share my stories.
Being a parent to two young children, I am only too aware of how frazzled and time-poor parents can be. That is why I wanted this book to provide a gateway to some of the amazing free resources for parents and carers too.
I am incredibly grateful for all the help and support I have received that has allowed me to bring “Freddy Counts to Zen” to you.
I hope you enjoy it!
